Robert originally trained under Ian Macpherson, the senior partner at Buckmaster and Moore. Then due to the sudden premature death of his father, he moved to France to run the family business in the rubber industry for five years, until this was sold. He returned to the UK and after a spell as a full-time farmer returned to the City at Brewin Dolphin as an associate in 1986. There he built up the business for 20 years before moving to Charles Stanley in 2011, then in early 2018 made the transition to Raymond James and works directly with Poppy Skepper and Will Bancroft.

He has travelled extensively on investment fact finding trips, particularly in the early days of Emerging Markets after the fall of the Berlin Wall. He was one of the first investment managers to visit Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovenia and Slovakia. He has travelled in the Far East including Hong Kong, Thailand, India, Latin America, including Colombia, and South Africa.

Having twice won the UK British junior ski championships he competed in the 1960 Squaw Valley Olympics, Robert was and, still remains, a keen skier. He also is an avid tennis player, playing frequently during the summer months. Otherwise, in his free time he enjoys reading, specifically history and business periodicals and has written three books; “Tackle Skiing this way”, “Munich 1938; The Price of Appeasement” and “A Decade of Stock Market Turmoil 2000 – 2010 and how to profit from it”. He has been married to Hannah for over 50 years. The couple have had 4 children and have 2 grandchildren.
